Bio

Dr. Lee E. Cooper, Jr., was reared in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He has served in ministry for 24 years. From 1979 to 1983, he attended Bishop College, Dallas, Texas and received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his Master of Divinity degree from the School of Theology, Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia in 1986. The summer of 2002, he attended the prestigious Summer Leadership program at Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2005, Pastor Cooper received his Doctor of Humane Letters from Virginia University of Lynchburg. Dr. Cooper served on the One Church One Child State Advisory Board 1989-2002 and on the Citizens League of Central Oklahoma. He has served as president of the Progressive Oklahoma Baptist Convention from 1989-1993, Chaplain of the Oklahoma State Senate in 1990 and 1993, and on the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City, Inc. 1988-1994. Pastor Cooper is presently serving on the Education and Publication Board and as a member of the Personnel Committee of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. He serves as the first African American on both the Capital Baptist Association Committee and the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma. In addition, Dr. Cooper is a member of the Southwestern Urban Development Corporation Executive Board since 1989. He also serves on the board of the KIPP: Reach College Preparatory School; as Social Action Chair for the Concerned Clergy for Spiritual Renewal; as Chairman of the City Wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Service; and as a member of the Citizen’s League of Central Oklahoma. Since 1986, Dr. Cooper has served as pastor of the Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1999, under his leadership, the church built a 1.2 million dollar state of the art sanctuary. The congregation and ministry continue to grow in spirit and number. Dr. Cooper is a devoted family man, the husband of the late Sheila W. Cooper, and the proud parent of two sons, Lee E. Cooper, III and Derrick P. Cooper.
